The 2nd bithday

It was Ariel's 2nd birthday last March 7 and thanks to everyone that came. On the day, we had all of our friends over and the next Saturday Barbie organized the party for Ari's friends. Performers from Momentum Dance company preformed for the kids - Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The First shot is from our house and the last two are from the kids party (with William and the car cake) at the park (Kirk Monroe Park, Coconut Grove).

Christmas with Ari

This post is for Steve Miller who claims I have not worked on the blog for a bit. But, this was Christmas II with Ari, and it was nice, we had the Italian-American style Christmas Eve (salted cod, smelts, stuffed artichokes, anchovies/oil based pasta and cannoli for the closer. Lot’s of friends, drink and food, just a nice time. While it was warm in Miami, Coconut Grove is a nice setting for any gathering and holiday celebration. Thanks to the friends who helped and we miss everyone that could not come or be in Miami (family and friends). See the rest of you at the Mango Strut this Sunday.

Removing a popcorn ceiling is as bad as SPIDERMAN III, really...

OK, last thanksgiving break I decided to remove the popcorn ceiling from our bedroom why Barbie and Ari were visiting family in up-State NY. I totally forgot how much I hated this process (I have done two rooms before….). Here are the before and after shots. Simple directions:

1) Cover all areas with plastic
2) Use a sprayer to spray hot water in about 1.5 m2 areas
3) Scrap and use a bucket to get what you can
4) Try not to hit the paper… and it’s hard to get it off compund
5) Wait a day
6) Get some Sheetrock durabond 45min, and mix batches as needed and spend a day skim coating and getting everything done (thin applications dry quickly and then are ready for sponging and reapplication).
7) Day 3, Killz
8) Day 4, ceiling paint

What is wrong with the DNC?

A letter submitted to the Miami Herald on Sept. 1, 2007

Now the Decmocratic National Commitee (DNC) and the democratic presidential candidates will simply ignore us in Florida. Does the DNC realize that deomcrats do not control any part of the State Legislature in Florida and therefore could not control the "moving up" of the primary? So voter apathy is simply tragic, and now my party decides not count our votes, that is Florida's Democrats' votes (and our delegration in choosing the party's next presidential candidate). How democratic? Unfortunately, the DNC is just making it harder for our party to stay together. Most political parties are well organized and carry a central unified theme/message. But, Will Rogers said it best, "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am Democrat". I would just be happy if more people voted, and who cares if the primary occurs in a January or not? And, no matter that the DNC considers CERTIANT states' historic roles as important, why does the order of primaries have to be so steadfast? The Democrats need votes, and they do not need to make any voter from Florida, or any state, to feel that their votes will not be counted. In Florida, we have already seen enough non-votes, come on DNC (!) get it together. I am truly worried about the disconnectedness of my own party, and how they are apparently set out to disenfranchise the people from our state. It's simply sad and undemocratic, after all, no one I voted for is on the DNC. Is any one you voted for on the DNC?

The Depot Comes

Well, it might not be a done deal, but the Home Depot is all about to open.

In the end it appears that a goverment for the people by the people is not working, so I will assume legal action will take over.

Regardless how you feel about this issue, it is truly amazing that a local goverment is not will to take the conerns of its residents to heart. The City Commision should conduct the people's business, not that of a special interest (business). I wonder why common citizens do not have a say, even when they try to voice conerns?

Well the HD issue is heating up, what will happen, when will it happen, and why is it still happening?

So, if HD really wants to build the MAX-PLAN, then why spend all this time renovating the old building.... And, why must they mess with the parking lot I need to take a baby stroller through...

Scinto et al. have the lawsuit with the City pending.

I will try to get this blog going again, but it's going to be a picture blog. So check it out in about week.

I hope to have "The Bikes of Bridgeport". So go out there and get a real bike, and please not some goofy cruiser.

Well, early voting is going on today, and make sure you vote. Whom ever you want in the Dist. 2 commision seat, just go out and vote. Do not forget Nov. 7th, and the next elected commisioner, will probably affect all of us in the Bridgeport Area.

After the election, we need to get a very active discussion going on here to make sure all points-of-view are out there for our elected officials to see.

Just some photos from the block. I realized Bridgeport is a bridge to Coconut Gove's past and present, with some of the few remaining 1930's houses, active construction, and Scotty's old store (updated and now Gardners Market). Not to mention the present issues affecting all of us on the street.
